HOOPESTON — Mayor Bill Crusinberry told city council members Tuesday about a new drug collection unit at city hall for disposal of old and unused prescription drugs.
According to the press release from Police Chief Mark Drollinger, the unit was the result of a grant from CVS/pharmacy awarded the city and “will help prevent the contamination of local landfills and water supplies from unused medication.” It also will help prevent prescription drug abuse, especially among teenagers.
The unit is open to the public 24 hours a day and drugs can be dropped off with no questions asked. For information about the program, call the toll free number (866) 559-8830 or visit www.cvs.com/safercommunities.
