Healthy Vermilion County

Vermilion County’s adult obesity rate is 37% (County Health Rankings 2016).  Obesity can lead to coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, and other debilitating conditions.  In 2015, Presence Hospital, Carle Hospital, United Way, and the Vermilion County Health Department came together and supported a Regional Community Plan Coordinator to develop an Obesity Prevention Workgroup, called Healthy Vermilion County.  This group will focus on getting healthy information and practices into the community and bringing together the leaders of the community to address the obesity issues in Vermilion County.

Some of the priority areas include:

  • Rethink Your Drink
  • Healthy Eating and Nutrition
  • Breast Feeding
  • Community Gardens
  • Policy Change

If you would like to be a part of the Healthy Vermilion County Workgroup, please email Julia Willis at jwillis@vchd.org.

Meetings are every other month on the 3rd Thursday of the Month from 9-10 at the Vermilion County Health Department.
